Thurrock Youth Cabinet host Youth Conference
THE fifth Thurrock Youth Conference took place on Thursday 13 December 2018 bringing together over 100 young people and secondary school students from across the borough.
Hosted by Thurrock Youth Cabinet at The Backstage Centre in Purfleet, the Youth Conference was an opportunity for Youth Cabinet members to develop skills in project management, debating and workshop planning.
Key topics during the conference covered those listed on the 2018 Make Your Mark Ballot including;
· put an end to knife crime
· mental health
· equal pay, equal work
· tackling homelessness
· votes at 16
A guest speaker from Gangsline Ltd. attended the event to talk about putting an end to knife crime, the top issue voted for by young people in Thurrock in the 2018 Make Your Mark ballot.
Cllr James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Education and Health, said: “Thurrock Youth Conference is a great opportunity for the Youth Cabinet to gain valuable experience in project management whilst delivering a successful and informative event to young people in the borough.
“There was a great buzz at the event from the students and young people who attended and some really interesting conversations, views and ideas around the topics covered during the debates and workshops.
“I would like to thank the Youth Cabinet for organising another successful event and all of those who attended.”
