£500 fines dished out for littering in Thurrock

MORE people have been given heavy fines for littering in Thurrock

Simon Fox, aged 48, of High Street, Aveley was found guilty in Basildon magistrates court of the following.

On 14/08/2018 at Grays, Thurrock threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely a cigarette and left it in outside Tesco, Cygnet View, West Thurrock, Thurrock a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

He was fined a total of £500.00

Kiran Shah, aged 50, of Lavender Avenue Kingsbury London was found guilty in Basildon magistrates court of the following.

On 06/09/2018 at Grays, Thurrock threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely a cigarette and left it in outside Meesons Lane, London Road, Grays, Thurrock a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

He was fined £500.00

Betsy Wordley, aged 49, of Fourth Avenue, Grays was found guilty in Basildon magistrates court of the following.

On 22/08/2018 at Thurrock threw down, dropped or otherwise deposited litter, namely a cigarette and left it in outside Outen Tyres, London Road, West Thurrock and South Stifford, a place which is open to the air a place to which section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 applied.

She was fined £500.00

  1. How about the dustman who leaves litter in the street?? or maybe the hedge cutter that turns one old crisp packet into a 100 pieces.
    If we take photographic evidence can we see some prosecutions here please….I think not!

  2. Its an absolute farce allowing these types of fines when there are bigger and worse issues to be dealt with that are in plain sight. Fines like these just make people angry and affects trade in the area it will not stop a person from dropping a cigarette anywhere else and the persons would make a point of getting their monies worth so backfires.
