Performance report outlines council’s successes in 2018/19
MORE young people in education or employment, potholes being filled more quickly and more new apprentices recruited were just some of the notable successes claims Thurrock Council.
An end of year performance report, presented at a meeting of the council’s Cabinet tonight (Wednesday, 10 July), showed 68 per cent of the authority’s performance indicator targets were met in 2018/19 – up from 66 per cent in 2017/18, 59 per cent in 2016/17 and 49 per cent in 2015/16.
Among the indicators highlighted in the report were:
· 99.1% of potholes filled within the target time – up from 97.1% in 2017/18
· 60 new apprentices started at the council – up from 40 in 2017/18
· all major and minor planning applications processed within target timescales
· just 1.9% of 16 and 17-year-olds not in education, employment or training (NEET) – down from 2.1% in 2017/18
· building works started on 117 new HRA-funded council homes
Cllr Deborah Huelin, Cabinet Member for Central Services and Communities, said: “This report acknowledges some of the fantastic successes achieved last year, whether that be in terms of apprenticeship recruitment, pothole repairs or the processing of planning applications.
“Targets are deliberately set to be ambitious and challenging, so I am delighted 68 per cent of all key performance indicators were achieved.
“Even in areas where overall targets have not been met, we have seen some strong performance during the course of the year. For instance, although the percentage of refuse bins emptied on the correct day was below target for the year overall, the target was exceeded in five of the last six months of 2018/19.
“We remain committed to continual improvement of all of the services we provide for our residents and will be including an ongoing commentary in all future performance reports, outlining and reviewing the actions being taken to improve our performance for any targets not currently being met.
“This will be named ‘route to green’, as suggested by the Corporate Overview and Scrutiny Committee, and reiterates the council’s commitment to providing high quality, consistent and accessible services.”
