STAFF at a Thurrock-based home care service have not only proved their abilities by topping a company competition – but they showed their generosity of spirit by hosting a fun-packed Christmas party for many of the older people they serve.
The team at the Thurrock branch of the Manorcourt Care network had already made 2019 special by gaining an outstanding rating for care when Ofsted inspectors visited in October.
And just before Christmas two members of the team based in Grays came first and runner up in the group wide carer of the year award – that’s out of 700 people working across Essex and Suffolk.
Branch manager in Thurrock is Karen Exley who says: “Last year I took over as branch manager and it has been a very busy time but I am loving every minute of it!
“I am so very proud of my team.
“Part of our commitment to the community is to ensure people are not socially isolated. We often put on social activities or charity events and once a month we run a club in the local church hall. This month we held the Christmas party for people.
“It was attended by many of the people we care for and also other vulnerable people in the Thurrock area. It was attended by about 60 people and everyone had a great time.
“Our carers volunteer to pick people up and take them to the venue then stay to help out.
“We kicked off with a local school choir followed by an entertainer then last but not least the Manorcourt choir! This was made up of office staff and our carers.
“Everybody has a fish and chips lunch and are given a Christmas present. The funding for this is made up of our office staff paying for dress down day every Friday and also cake sales we hold throughout the year.”
