East Thurrock United 3 v 3 Kingstonian
Report courtesy of East Thurrock United
A WEIRD and sometimes wacky game at the Grayers Graphics Stadium, but great entertainment nevertheless. The home side eased into a comfortable two goal lead, but an impressive Kingstonian side turned it around to go 3-2 up before the Rocks struck a late equaliser.
The Rocks started the liveliest, with Frankie Merrifield forcing an excellent save from Rob Tolfrey inside the opening four minutes. The K’s countered, and the home sides
Jason Ring scrambled a shot from former Southend United favourite Sean Clohessy off the line.
The opening goal came on 13 minutes when Ring crossed into the box and Mitchell Gilbey’s shot was helped in by a despairing Harry Osbourne.
The Rocks doubled their lead on 35 minutes as Ben Marlow curled in a cross from out on the right which deceived everyone and went in off the far post.
Kingstonian were right back in it when five minutes before the break Clohessy fired in after home keeper Jack Giddens only half saved a free kick.
Merrifield had a spectacular overhead effort scrambled clear as half time approached.
Early in the second half Merrifield had an effort ruled out for offside, then the visitors Dan Hector had an effort cleared off the line by Jordan Brown.
The visitors weren’t to be denied though, and Clohessy fired in from close range on the hour, after good work from Hector.
Kingstonian were on top now, and it came as no real surprise when Hector smashed a great effort which went in off the post to put them 3-2 up.
Rocks had the last word though when substitute Matt Price found space to fire past Tolfrey with three minutes left.
Deep into added time Rocks had a great chance to win it, but Tolfrey pulled off a brilliant save to keep the scores level.
