THOUSANDS of cars are seen waiting to be shipped at one of Britain’s biggest ports reports the Daily Mail.

The new cars were seen lined up in rows at Tilbury docks in Essex as demand slumped due to the coronavirus crisis.

New car sales plunged by 97 per cent during the strictest part of the lockdown last month, according to industry figures published last week.

The car industry is Britain’s biggest export and the coronavirus could see companies lose £8billion in output due to the pandemic, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Car manufacturers Ford and Vauxhall have announced that they will re-open their car plants from next week.

It comes as the UK’s weekly death toll from the virus reached 384, the lowest since the end of March.
