Fashion Promotion degree students working on a professional magazine

Fashion experience for students working with magazine

FASHION Promotion students from University Centre South Essex have been contributing to professional publication, ASBO magazine.

The BA (Hons) Fashion Media & Promotion students, who study at the Centre’s Southend Campus, write, photograph and style features for the magazine including street style pieces and articles about fashion trends.

ASBO was launched in 2017 as an alternative style and culture magazine. It brings together the underground and overground from around the world, covering music, fashion, film, TV, politics and current affairs.

Year one students Elizabeth Setordzi and Lee Fry worked on a live brief for the magazine.

Elizabeth, 19, from Southend said: “Live briefs and industry work really do help us as students because we can experience how jobs in the real world work. Working with industry brands helps us reach contacts for the future, we love seeing our work being published.”

Lee, 22, from Southend said: “By taking part in this project I have learnt numerous photography techniques, how to find solutions in real time, how to approach branding and marketing plus I have generally improved my skill set.
“Working on live briefs gives you a wider understanding of the business. It feels so rewarding for my work to be selected and published.”

Sherry Ellis, Course Leader, said: “We have strong industry connections as part of the degree and the students really like these live brief challenges so they can gain their own industry contacts early on in the course.”

The degree is a three year full time course accredited by University of the Arts London. It offers direct entry to the fashion industry and is for people thinking about careers in marketing, public relations, styling, fashion photography, visual merchandising, fashion buying, creative publishing, branding, trend forecasting and illustration.
