Thurrock Council’s development of local care and support services wins Public Sector award

THURROCK Council’s innovative work developing local care and support services recently won the Best Community and Neighbourhood Initiative award at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) awards 2020.

Cllr James Halden, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, said: “It’s fantastic to see our micro-enterprise work being recognised at this year’s APSE awards and all that we have done to support the growth of local, resident-led care and support services in Thurrock.

“Now in its fourth year, the micro-enterprise scheme has supported residents in Thurrock to develop more than 130 services, ranging from personal care, support at home to gardening and wellbeing services. It has been a great enabler for people not only looking for employment but also in realising a passion, hobby or an interest, and turning this into a service that can provide an income and an opportunity to work with their local community.

“These services make a real difference to the way people live their lives and enable them, for example to remain living at home, receiving the services they need in order to be truly independent. This award is a testament to the outstanding work of our services to empower and support our residents in helping one another – well done and thank you to all involved in this great achievement.”
