SAFEGUARDING host reverse advent calendar to support local community The Safeguarding Team at South Essex College hosted a cross-campus donation service entitled the Reverse Advent Calendar to support the food bank charity, Trussell Trust.
Held between the 1-18 December the Reverse Advent Calendar was set up to support local community foodbanks by providing non-perishable foods and toiletries to vulnerable people in need this Christmas.
Staff and students were encouraged to contribute items to a donation box at their designated campus. Even during this difficult time with many support staff working from home the event was a great success with each campus receiving generous donations from the college community.
Sue Walsh, Safeguarding Manager at South Essex College, said: “After a difficult year for us all in which the need for government to extend free school and college meals to combat food poverty was highlighted nationally, the college’s Safeguarding Team thought it was time to reverse the theory of the advent calendar by giving to others instead.”
“We are so very proud to showcase the exceptional generosity of the staff and students across all our sites this year in support of our local food banks. The Safeguarding Team would like to sincerely thank all staff and students that generously contributed and wish you all a happy and safe Christmas.”
