Swimming: Olivia takes bronze at Regional Open Water Champs

SWIMMERS from Thurrock Swimming Club attended this year’s Regional Open Water Championships held in Norwich.  The swimmers who train at Blackshots Leisure Centre with Impulse Leisure, attended the event on a very hot day, but the venue was excellent and ideal swimming conditions for open water.

Olivia Church (16) finished 3rd in her age group in the Regional 5km competition.  Olivia has now qualified for the National Open Water Championships which will be held in August.  A great achievement and her first national swimming event.

Mathew Riddle swam a great race in the 17 year old category.  He finished 3rd in Essex but missed a national spot by one place.

Will Minister and Lilyana Verlander swam in their first open water competition.  Both fought so hard and Will finished 1st in The East Region and also Essex Champion.  Lilyana finished 2nd in the East and also became Essex Champion.

Kerry Ann Wilkins had a great swim completing the 5km event in the 50-59 category.  Kerry also finished 1st in the East and County Champion.
