Cricket: Youth leads the way at Belhus CC

OVERSEAS’ Ray Toole was the standout performer with another fine haul of five wickets as the Belhus 1st XI suffered to a disappointing 77 run defeat at home to Essex Premier rivals, Hadleigh & Thundersley.

It was a very different story with the Belhus 2nd XI who played out for a draw and earned twelve league points at league leaders, Fives and Heronians.   The Belhus 2nd XI, led by Captain Martin Guilbert is largely made up of  u18s. Youngster, Henry Overy scored 107 runs of the 242 total.  This was Henry’s second century in as many weeks for Belhus.  Henry’s fine form continued as he bowled four wickets and was reportedly unlucky not to take five (‘5for’) due to a missed catch in the field.

Belhus 3s and 4s went down to heavy defeats against Wanstead and Snaresbrook and Hutton respectively so it was left to Belhus CC 5th XI to ‘refuse to lose’.  Belhus CC 5th XI earned a draw and nine league points at home to Upminster with some fine batting performances from the youngsters James Maynard, 56 runs and Afra Rose Mohammed, 48 runs.
