Amazon celebrates fifth year in Tilbury

The Amazon fulfilment centre in Tilbury has recently marked its fifth anniversary by hosting a range of fun activities for employees.

The Tilbury team took part in activities at the fulfilment centre, including a fun fair, sweet treats, and prize giveaways.

Commenting on the celebrations, Amazon Tilbury General Manager, Ruzanna Sargsyan, said:

“We’ve had five great years in Tilbury, and we wanted to do something special to say thank you to our team for all their efforts. It’s been fun to bring everyone together to celebrate our anniversary.”

Miguel Da Conceicao, an employee at Amazon in Tilbury, added:

“We are proud of what we have achieved as a team, and these celebrations were a great way to mark our fifth birthday together and have some fun.”

The Amazon Tilbury fulfilment centre opened in 2017 and employs more than 3,000 full-time employees. The building, which measures more than 2m square feet, is the same size as 28 football pitches. It has thousands of robots across four robotic floors, helping employees to fulfil customer orders.

Since opening its doors in 2017, the Amazon fulfilment centre in Tilbury has supported many community organisations through donations.

Over the past five years, the fulfilment centre has donated a total of £67,500 to charities across Essex. In 2022, the Amazon team in Tilbury has made donations totalling £8,000 to charities including Thurrock Foodbank, Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund and One Community.

Since 2010, Amazon has supported customers and SMEs in Essex by investing over £1.1 billion locally. This investment led to the production of goods and services that has contributed over an estimated £1.2 billion to the region’s GDP since 2010. In Essex, there are more than 1,900 SMEs selling and exporting products on Amazon. Essex SMEs selling on Amazon recorded over £135 million of export sales in 2020.

The roles pay a minimum of £11.45 per hour, and Amazon employees can also take advantage of Amazon’s pioneering Career Choice programme, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields, up to £8,000 over four years, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon.
