LAST week, Roads Policing Unit officers seized three vehicles and report 68 drivers for traffic offences in Thurrock Vision Zero day as part of their work to keep roads in Essex safe.

Our Roads Policing Unit continues to work hard with our partners at Safer Essex Roads Partnership (SERP) to make the roads in Essex safe, to reduce crime on our roads and uphold the law.

On Wednesday 27 September, our officers were joined by Trading Standards, working alongside the RPU to tackle vehicle weight limit complaints and environmental issues: 20 vehicles were stopped, and drivers spoken to.

A total of 68 drivers were reported for offences which included:

Seatbelts – 30

Mobile phone – 6

MOT – 3

Number plates – 5

Dangerous conditions – 3

Tints – 11

Insurance – 3

Speeding – 7

In addition, 3 uninsured vehicles were seized.

Vision Zero days highlight to the public that road-related crime won’t be tolerated and show we will take all necessary action to tackle offenders and to remove any risk to other road users.

Vision Zero is a partnership approach to keeping roads in Essex safe for everyone with an aspiration for no road deaths by 2040 or sooner.

Sadly, three of the four offences that are known collectively as the Fatal Four, were in evidence. Non-seatbelt compliance, mobile phone usage whilst driving and speeding are offences that contribute to collisions and road safety, but 43 drivers were issued for these offences.
