AVELEY’S impressive run of Vanarama National League North results came to an end at Bath City, in a clash where second played third on Saturday (11 November) afternoon.
Prior to kick off at Twerton Park, Remembrance Day commemorations were held.
Bath started fast and didn’t take long to assume an early advantage. After just seven minutes unmarked Cody Cooke met Jordan Thomas’ corner at the front post, guiding the ball into the net.
The Romans did not let off after their early goal. Two minutes later, Eduino Vaz took down Jordan Thomas in the penalty area after a clever run. and Cooke converted a penalty to put the home side two up, sending Millers goalkeeper Jonathan North the wrong way.
Aveley struggled to find a way through but would have felt hard done by after Siju Odelusi’s penalty shouts were ignored by the referee.
In the 64th minute, Scott Wilson looked like he had sent the home team three goals up. However, the referee disallowed it for a foul on Harry Gibbs.
There was some confusion about the referee’s decision in the 90th minute. Bath had the ball in the net, but the goal was chalked off to give the scoring team a penalty and to compound the incident
