POLICE arrested a man who allegedly drove away from court minutes after he was banned for “street racing”.

Scores of people were called before magistrates in Basildon on Monday in connection with illegal driving in the Lakeside area of Thurrock reports the BBC.

One of them was a 24-year-old from south east London who had his licence revoked by the court.

He was then arrested by police and charged with driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Explaining why the numerous prosecutions were brought on Monday, Ch Insp Ben Hodder, of Essex Police, said: “When you look at some of the cruising events the pavements are lined four or five people deep and you can get anywhere between 50 and 400 spectators.”

He said drivers speeding with so many spectators around were putting many people at risk.

The 24-year-old charged after his court appearance will appear before Basildon Magistrates on 17 October.

  1. Some people really were at the back of the queue when they were giving out brains, this is typical of the type of motorist that the Police are trying to stop at Lakeside and the surrounding area, this person has very little regards for the law or for other road users and needs to be either reeducated or banned for life.
