A POLICE INVESTIGATION into whether a Labour councillor committed a criminal offence by “treating” residents to cakes during a by-election campaign in Stifford Clays has been closed.
Essex Police informed YT that their investigation had not uncovered any criminal offences.
The statement will come as welcome news to newly elected councillor Sue Shinnick, who found herself the subject of national news.
According to sources, cllr Shinnick was shocked and upset to find that she could, if found guilty, face jail.
The initial complaint centred on an allegation that cllr Shinnick had, after serving tea and cakes to canvassers went over to a nearby sheltered accommodation and offered cakes to residents.
YT has also been informed by a well placed source that it was a little fruitcake.

That should teach all Labourites, never give anything away.

Cake-gate’ in Thurrock is probed after allegations that Labour councillor broke electoral rules
A POTENTIAL election storm that blew up in Thurrock last week looks like it has turned into a damp squib.
Local Tory councillor Mark Coxshall went to the police with allegations new Labour Stifford Clays Cllr Sue Shinnick had broken electoral rules by providing cakes for elderly voters before a by-election that she won. Cllr Shinnick is alleged to have handed out the items at the Elizabeth House retirement flats 11 days before the recent by-election.
The Electoral Commission says that a candidate is guilty of treating if “either before, during or after an election directly or indirectly gives or provides any food, drink, entertainment or provision to corruptly influence any voter to vote or refrain from voting.” However, she would have to be found to be motivated by “corrupt intent.”
Labour Party sources have said the cakes were merely leftovers from a group function which were passed over the elderly residents rather than being thrown into the bin.
Essex Police confirmed that a complaint had been made by Cllr Coxshall, who is himself under scrutiny by the force over comments that have been alleged to be hateful against Travellers when he was speaking about a recent planning application in his Corringham and Fobbing ward.
When is the Thurrock Tory group going to wake up and get rid of this trouble maker once and for all ?. This coxshall is nothing but a laughing stock.

The original complaint and the reposnse to it sums up Thurrock Council pretty well. They should give custard pies out to the councillors and the hangers on at council meetings to throw at each other. A bunch of kids in the playground. Sorry that’s insulting to children.
If only Mark Coxshall would have been as quick to call the police in when two members of his own Party stole wine (Eddie,Danny) from castle point council and hamper gate when things got Stolen from a charity Hamper then Joy Redsell and the Famous Theft of a Picture the Gull lighthouse furthermore the Irregularities regarding planning and their friendship with senior Tories with the local company ICG LIMITED (Titan works) i could go on all day about the underhanded Members of his Group, What don’t we know about the rest of the Tory group all I can say is lock your hyme sheets away in church, and hide everything , I Think the Tory group should feel ashamed for trying to score political points. It shows they cannot win a seat so the local woman who did was fair game to them. If they can play a campaign of Dirty tricks do we want any of them being our ward councillors are these the morals we want to teach our children ( No) I feel Councillor Mark Coxshall should be made to resign Mr Anderson as you are a Christian in the bible it says turn the other cheek but it doesn’t mean 24/7 or literally an eye for an eye
What concerns me is the waste of Police time and resource. Crime is alarmingly high in the Corringham and all The Tory ward Coxshall can think of is ‘lets stick a complaint in versus a newly elected Stifford Clays labour councillor’. Pathetic.
The bigger picture here is this is an insight and must be how “chip on the shoulder” coxshall mentors the existing and new (if any), intake into the Thurrock tory ranks ?. Become a grass and pick on any minority group. He wants throwing out of office !. Aren’t councillors elected into office to represent everyone ?.
Danny Nicklen was very very lucky that for some reason Labour didn’t decide to use that photo of of a certain person with the Hitler moustache during the recent by-election. Let us hope nobody else decides to use it instead if young Danny, the former Deputy Mayors consort, ever decides to stand again.
