Romford and Gidea Park 8 v 8 Thurrock

ANOTHER physical encounter ensued at Crowlands as both sides found it hard to impose themselves in the game, an early forage into Thurrock territory by the home side gave them a chance to open the scoring and it was from a five metre line out Thurrock were unable to stop the inevitable catch and drive resulted in forward try from Kennedy the conversion from the boot of Lawrence was short but moments later he added a penalty to lead 8-0

On a warm and muggy afternoon Thurrock started to get back in the game but it was very frustrating for the visiting supporters as the final pass seemed to go to ground. But Thurrock did get on the score sheet just before half time when No8 Bradleigh Retigan picked up from the base and beat the cover to score in the corner to make the score 8-5 at the break

The second half as expected remained the same with a simmering undercurrent with a few physical involvements, Thurrock spent long periods in the Romford half and at last won a kickable penalty and from fully 45 metres Hagen Mumba sent the ball straight through the uprights to bring the scores level.

With three minutes left of normal time Mumba had another chance from a little further out but this the ball struck the angle of the post and crossbar and fell to safety. But deep into injury there was one more twist in the tail, a rare excursion into the Thurrock half, Romford won a penalty and well within kicking distance, but Lawrence pushed his effort wide and the teams remained level as the referee signalled the end of the game

This week Thurrock are at Home to Ruislip, kick off will be 3pm preceded by the first VP Lunch of the season
