FOR the past month, people across the borough have been campaigning to save their libraries.

Petitions and protests have taken place from Aveley to Corringham.

This week marks the beginning of the Essex Book Festival.

The festival is a hugely important event that attracts authors from across the country and indeed the world.

It begins with Shami Chakrabit at the launch event and has a huge variety of fascinating authors.

When we looked on their website, we saw there were events from Basildon to Wivenhoe.

But, there did not seem to be a single event in Thurrock?

Surely, the borough that cherishes reading so much would hosting a whole legion of events?

We asked Thurrock Council. A spokesperson told us that a WW1 memories event at the Thameside was part of the Essex Book Festival.

We checked the Essex Book Festival website but there was no mention of this event.

A bit like jobs at Thurrock libraries. Maybe , we did not check the fine print.
