By Bill West
THURROCK sit top of the T Rippon Mid-Essex Premier Division after easily beating High Roding.
The visitors batted first on a cloudy day at Blackshots. After a couple of early wickets from Umaad Sultan (2-41), Adam Holdgate and Matt Hammond put on a partnership that threatened to take the score past 200. But after Holdgate was dismissed for 50 and Hammond for 36, the away side collapsed and were all out for 163. The wickets were shared all around the Thurrock bowlers as Clarke Wren, Mo Rahim and Rob Neal all picked up two wickets.
The hosts made light work of the run chase, as Sultan added 33 to his two wickets, while Umar Ayub finished 76 not out, his second half century of the season. He was well supported by Rob Baker, who also finished unbeaten on 29. The runs were comfortably chased down in the 39th over to continue Thurrock’s 100% winning start to the season.
