LABOUR’S Mike Le-Surf has called for a "brand new start" in South Essex after crushing defeat across the area.
Mike Le-Surf stood for election in South Basildon and East Thurrock in this year’s general election and is now calling on all party members and supporters in South Essex to force the change necessary to win again in our part of the country.
Mike said: "In the early hours of May 8th we found out that Labour had failed to win the support and respect of residents across our part or the UK. This came as a blow to hard working Labour campaigners, many of whom had spent the last two or three years working hard in their local communities.
I was proud of our campaigning in Thurrock and Basildon but we lost and we lost badly. If Labour is to win again in South Essex, which I am sure we will, we need a brand new start.
We need a new leadership team at the top of the party, but we also need to change the dated structures of our organisation that are obsessed with quantity over quality, and have lost touch with the people we are supposed to represent."
Mike is supporting Andy Burnham MP for leadership of the Labour Party and has written to supporters and campaigners across South Essex to send in their views about the 2015 campaign, the good and the bad.
Mike will be meeting with deputy leadership candidates soon to discuss the main issues for South Essex and the areas where change is needed.
Mike added: "We have recruited thousands of new members to the party since the elect defeat and to be honest, many of them will be shocked to see how our party is run. I want these people, especially the younger members, to get fully involved and challenge the current set up. The coming year will be a difficult time for the Labour Party but, if we do not reform and renew our commitment to the people of South Essex, we won’t change a thing."
