AT the start of June, Lower Dunton Road was closed because a surface water culvert under it had collapsed.
At the time, Thurrock Council hoped the road would re-open by 18 June.
This has not proved possible because, although the work is progressing to rebuild the culvert which had been destroyed, there have been delays due to vandalism of equipment and the diversionary signs.
The damaged area has been excavated and a concrete hard-standing built to allow the placing of new pipes. Next the council will construct the headwalls, fill the hole, rebuild the road and reinstall the safety barrier.
It is now expected this will be complete by the end of June 2015.
