PUPILS and staff at Tilbury Pioneer Academy are soon to be the proud owners of an eco-greenhouse, made almost entirely from 1500 2ltr drink bottles! Pioneer’s PTA have been tirelessly collecting the bottles from staff, pupils and the local community for the last eight months.

With the end finally in sight, it was time to turn their attention to the structure that was needed to bring the whole project together. This was where Willmott Dixon Housing Limited (who are currently building new houses on the old Gateway Academy St Chad’s site) were happy to oblige with wood, nails, hinges and anything else that the structure needed to be built!

Construction Manager, Mr Spencer Smart of Willmott Dixon, said “We were more than happy to oblige with the raw materials that were needed for the project to come together. We are always delighted to help with community projects and indeed have been supportive of the Gateway Learning Community in the past with their attendance campaign and displaying the excellent work of their pupils on our hoardings. We look forward to the grand opening!”

Mr Dan George, Head of School at Pioneer, said “I would like to personally thank Willmott Dixon for being so generous in donating the materials for our eco project. Without the tireless support of the families of our community, along with our PTA, this project would not have been realised. I cannot wait to see it all come together!”

The staff at Pioneer hope to have the greenhouse build under way for people to view at their upcoming Summer Fayre, which will be held on Saturday 9 July. See the Pioneer website for more details – www.theglc.org.uk
