Jo Cox charity single to be recorded by politicians and pop stars at The Backstage Centre in Thurrock

ON Thursday 17th November a recording and video of The Rolling Stones’ classic ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’, from their 1969 album ‘Let It Bleed’, will be produced at The Backstage Centre in Thurrock.

It will be filmed by students studying at the National College Creative Industries and proceeds from the single will support the launch of the Jo Cox Foundation.

The project is being led by Robin Millar, one of Britain’s most successful ever record producers.

The late MP’s former colleagues Kevin Brennan, Sir Greg Knight, Pete Wishart and Ian Cawsey make up the cross-party parliamentary band MP4 who will be recording the single with The Parliamentary Choir and the Royal Opera House Thurrock Community Chorus. They will be joined in the studio by the Kaiser Chiefs’ Ricky Wilson, KT Tunstall, David Gray, Suzi Quatro and Cockney Rebel’s frontman Steve Harley.

Robin said: “I’ve been working with MP4 for ten years because they signify an ideal of less adversarial politics and that MPs spend more time off camera working together than they do jousting for the media. Jo Cox epitomised this in her every action and statement. Out of ill must come good. Out of Jo’s death and in the teeth of a gale of hate politics, I’ll do my bit for a cause that gives another view.”

The promotional video, and the mini documentary that will accompany the single will be filmed and directed by students and apprentices from the National College Creative Industries under the supervision of its principal, Jane Button who said:

“This project is a great example of how our students work alongside industry professionals gaining exceptional work experience.”

The recording and video will go on general release in the New Year through Kobalt Music, to raise awareness of the launch of the foundation set up to give a lasting legacy to the work and life of Jo Cox MP, who died in June 2016.
