After gaining promotion at the end of last season, Thurrock began their first game in Division 7SE strongly. Using their wingers, Ricky Smith and Mat Skinner to stretch the opposition and went into the lead when Himesh Patel’s free hit went to Sam Webb who centred for Liam Birch to beat the keeper.

THIS was always going to be a tough first fixture, and tough it was with both teams fighting until the end. Thurrock started the brighter with Christian Jenkins, Jak Taylor and Dec Milane all missing excellent chances but then Thurrock gave a sloppy short corner away which Saffron put past new boy Danny Hick.
Thurrock’s re-found confidence came to the fore in a scintillating 1st half display which saw them record a bonus point with four well taken tries. Tring were welcomed to Oakfield with their game low on confidence after two defeats, and seemed to be intent in playing a close forward orientated game, but Thurrock who are more than happy to defend this situation and await mistakes, and this give them space for their innovative backs to spring into action.
FIRE CREWS were called to a large shed on fire on Sunday evening at Station Road, East Tilbury. On arrival at the incident crews reported the shed was 100 percent alight. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used one jet, and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.
