Speedway-Hammers take to track for first time

Hammers Co-promoter Jon Cook commented “Rather than trying to condense everything into the few hours of a traditional press and practise event, we secured the whole day at the Raceway. This provided an ideal opportunity for all of the team to get lots of valuable track time, allowing them to test their set ups and engines, and iron out any gremlins at their own pace.

Hockey: Firsts smash eight to clam relegation nerves

Witham started well scoring first with a well taken goal but man of the match Andre Rudder pulled it level with a neat 1-2 with Matthew Gaut. T's applied the pressure which resulted in a solo goal effort from Christian Jenkins and slick passing allowed Kyle Taylor a simple tap in.

Hockey: Thirds give their all for fine away win

Thurrock were in no mood to let their advantage slip and quickly replied with Ricky Smith powering down the right wing and driving into the D to release a shot which left the keeper rooted to the spot. With two minutes to go, Declan Salmon cut out a Southendians attack and spotted a run by Patel on the left which provided an opening for Jimmy Venus to draw the keeper off his line and reverse flick into the net to complete his hat trick.

He continued: “I also spent a lot of time working on my fitness over the winter, doing a lot of training as well as racing. My best mate back home is Josh Waters, who is a former Australian Superbike Champion, and he showed me a few more varied training techniques that they use in Superbikes, which really helped me to improve my training."

Rugby-Gable Hall through to Essex Final…to face St Clere’s

The last moments were nail biting, with Brentwood missing a penalty kick in front of the posts and Owen Moore making an excellent tackle taking the Brentwood player into touch to end the game and claim the victory.

Hockey-Thirds competitive against Walden

Due to unavailability of several players, a very much weakened Thurrock team began this Division 8 SE game and were behind after only 10 minutes when centre-back Dave Leeks was unable to cut out a speedy attack and the ball just evaded a diving Declan Salmon to enter the net. Thurrock fought back and an attack by Ricky Smith down the right produced a pass for Liam Birch to play a one-two with Jimmy Venus before shooting inches wide.

Cricket: Orsett U-14’s triumph in indoor champs

Stanford's unexpected reverse came at the hands of an excellent performance from Horndon on the Hill. The Hope were dismissed for 52, but it could have been much worse had it not been for a defiant knock of 25 from Callum McCarthy. Luke Smith and Daniel Petts were destructive with the ball for Horndon as they returned figures of 3-6 and 2-9 respectively. Petts then continued to turn the screw still further with a fine undefeated 23 while Sam Jeyes was also unbeaten, scoring 22.
