PA announcer at Grays Athletic, Mike Jones aka Floydman felt “disgusted and betrayed” after finding out he had been fired by seeing his job advertised on the club’s website.
Mr Jones had informed the club, halfway through last season that as budget was tight he would agree to work for nothing.
Mr Jones, 51, has reacted with disgust at the incident.
He said: “I really enjoyed my time as the PA announcer at Grays. It is sad to be treated like this.
The incident comes as speculation continues as to what shape will the club be in when the season starts on August 8th.
With star Barry Cogan leaving the club for Crawley following a “racial incident”, other stars such as Jamie Stuart and Jamie Taylor are also set to leave as budgets are anticipated to be very tight.
Coach Craig Edwards said: “I’ve just got the PFA list of available of players and there’s a huge number to choose from,”
“There are some quality players out there and no need to rush.”
Concerns have also been expresses as to whether the financial condition of Westview Rail, closely associated with the Woodward family plus the possible withdrawl of Setanta will allow the club to compete in the Blue Square Premier.
Pundits rate the Bridge Road club as one of the favourites for the drop this season although others assert that Grays will be in the same plight as many other clubs.
The club has also been hit by a glut of defections from youth coaching staff to St Clere’s.
A source close to the club said: “Grays have lost their way in the borough as Southend, West Ham and Spurs have developed coaching clinics in the borough.
What happens at the AGM will be vital but many foresee a desperate time on and off the pitch.”
