A special meeting of Orsett Community Forum saw a bumper crowd of 88 villagers attend a key meeting as the controversial subject of the Thames Crossing was aired.
The forum Chair, Mr Graham Monk, asked for a show of hands for those in favour of Option C.
Not one hand went up…. When he asked ‘those who oppose’, 88 villagers voted unanimously to oppose the DfT Option C proposal.
To reinforce this feeling the Councillor for Orsett Ward, Mr Mike Revell, explained how he has posted a ballot paper through each and every home within the ward and has received nearly 500 back so far – each opposing the DfT plan. The ballot is a simple paper based ballot, asking voters to say whether they are ‘for’ or ‘against’ the DfT option c proposal.
The Orsett Councillor will collate the poll and present the findings in due course to the stakeholders, MPs and community.
In the mean time it was suggested the forum head up a new ‘lobby group’, with the assistance of councillors and forum chairs, to arrange a meeting for all those affected.
The project is in its infancy and this stage is considered to take at least another 18-24 months for high level decisions to be made.
This will include an environmental impact assessment, business case.
