Tilbury Murder Latest

Police are renewing their appeal for information as they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following a night out in Tilbury.

An ambulance was called in the early hours of Saturday, August 1, to a 37-year-old man found injured on the ground at the junction of St Chads Road and Calcutta Road in Tilbury. He was taken to Basildon Hospital where he sadly later died at 8.30pm on Tuesday, August 4.

He has been named as Gordon Campbell, an architect from Camden in London.

Officers are investigating reports that he was assaulted inside The Anchor pub in Civic Square during the course of the evening and again outside the pub around 1am.

Police are appealing for anybody that may have been in or around the Anchor Pub that night to come forward and help with these enquiries.
Det Supt Liam Osborne, the senior investigating officer, said; “A post-mortem examination carried out yesterday showed the cause of death to be head injuries which we believe were caused by Mr Campbell falling and hitting his head on the ground.
“What we are looking to establish is what happened to him before he fell.”

Any witnesses are asked to contact Brentwood major investigation team on 0300 333 4444 or call the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111 in strictest confidence.
