Trading Standards officers at Thurrock Council have issued warnings about two pet scams involving advertisements on Internet.
In one, from a firm called Pet Air Cargo in Cameroon, people are urged contact the company which claims it will ship a puppy for a fee of £300.
In the other the advert claims Adorable English Puppy for Adoption with an email address of bobmawl@yahoo.com and a mobile telephone number (07055153332) which appears to be registered in Pakistan. When contacted, people receive a reply saying the dog will be sent following payment of £100.
Trading Standards at Thurrock Council say they have received complaints that no puppies or dogs were received after the money was paid.
Cllr Ben Maney, Thurrock Council’s cabinet member for Public Protection, said: “People should take great care when ordering anything through the Internet or by telephone ― especially live animals.”
