A 16-year-old girl who was arrested following a disturbance outside the Sugar Hut nightclub in Brentwood had been cleared of all charges.
The case has attracted national attention after the arrest of the girl and others was filmed and widely condemned as “heavy handed”. Officers involved with the case have been put on restricted duties and an Independent Police Complaints Commission enquiry started.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons appeared at Grays Youth Court, where the Crown Prosecution Service explained to presiding magistrate, David Johnson that the charges were being withdrawn.
The girl, accompanied by her guardian was told she was free to leave.
