Two fire appliances raced to London Road, Grays just before 6pm last night to face a serious fire involving a Kebab van .
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and foam to extinguish a fire. ECFRS control received a number of emergency calls alerting crews to the incident.
Its owner managed to turn off gas cylinders before the arrival of crews but attempted to put out a fire involving fat with water, causing flames to flare up.
Firefighters reported that the van was well alight when they arrived at the scene.
The incident was dealt with by 18:25 hrs.
There were no casualties and the cause was accidental.
