LABOUR Councillor Lynn Worrall made an impassioned challenge to the agency staff that are costing the council close to a million pounds per year.
At the Children’s Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee, the Tilbury councillor informed the meeting that the anticipated cost of agency staff was £44,000 but she revealed that the real cost, in the absence of permanent staff was £972,000.
Cllr Worrall said: “If they want to come to Thurrock. If they want all the benefits then they should sign on the dotted line.
“This is a great borough but this is a massive cost. They are draining us of vital cash.”
