IT IS quite a coup for William Edwards School and Sports College to have Olympic star Daley Thompson as Guest of Honour at their Presentation Evening.
Legend is an over-used expression but in the case of double Olympic Decathlon gold medallist, Daley Thompson it cannot be used enough.
The Decathlon is the ultimate test for any athlete but Daley won the gold at Moscow in 1980 and in Los Angeles in 1984 as well as European and Commonwealth titles.
His story is an inspirational one. A troubled childhood: a teacher took the hyperactive pupil him down to an athletics track. Daley, couldn’t concentrate on one event. According to the legend, the teacher told him: “Daley, you can’t do every event.”
