THURROCK Council’s ruling Conservative Cabinet agreed to recommend to Council next week a council tax increase of 2.99% or £32.18
If agreed, this would mean that Band D Council Tax would increase from £1,073.43 to £1,105.56 (exc Fire and Police).
Portfolio Holder, Cllr Barry Johnson asked all officers to “continue to take a very tight control of all budgets” but also praised them for the £5m in efficiency savings.
Council Leader Garry Hague praised the council for presenting a “prudent” budget in “very challenging times”
In the report presented to cabinet, members were asked to note that there was a forecast overspend in 2009/10 of £4.1 million.
The report also warned that “the recession will affect the Council more markedly from 2011/12.” and “Capital receipts remain very low”.
The proposals go forward to full council next wednesday (Feb 24th).
