THE DREAM for Aveley is still on as they beat lowly Bognor to climb into the play off places at a vital time of the season.
What a difference 16 days make. The last time I interviewed Rod ,after he’d just watched his side implode to lose 4-3, he was ready to explode and I’m sure the dressing rooms walls were ready to blush. Tonight though he was a different man and understandably so. He’d just watched his busy Aveley side record their fourth win in four matches.
The winter weather means congestion for so many clubs and Aveley are now in the thick of the nine matches in nineteen days period. Tired. ? Not a bit of it. They pressed from the start with Ryan Doyle grazing the crossbar after 3 minutes ,Junior Dadson curled just outside a minute later. Sherwin Stanley came close after 19 and Martin Tuohy was millimetres away from opening the scoring.
On 27 minutes he did. After a good build up, with on the floor passing ,Martin found himself on the edge of the box and simply pushed it past Anthony Enders outstretched arms to open his tally.
Straight after half time he did it again and almost in the same fashion . On 61 Minutes after more Aveley domination Tuohy again advanced on good work from Sherwin and found the net very simply.
Bognor didn’t look like a side that had just won their last two matches and their chairman will not relish the long journey back to the south coast after watching his team under perform for ninety minutes. In fact Aveley keeper Ollie Morris- Sanders was the coldest man on the pitch as he had very little to do.
So next Thursday is a tough match away at Wealdstone and then off to Dartford in front of a rumoured 3500. On this display they should do well.
Dagenham assistant boss Terry Harris was spying on this one . I wonder if a Mr Tuohy impressed him as much as Martin impressed everyone else.
The dressing room walls can have a night off tonight. Daddy is in a good mood.
