Candidates

Ben Gadsby (Cons)

Jay Lee Slaven (BNP)

Steve Liddiard (Lab)

When Lynn Worrall won this seat in 2008 the Tilbury girl through and through pledged to work for the people. With her links with many many organisations, Lynn has succeeded in representing the changing society in Tilbury. Speaking to Lynn today she admits there is much to do and there are a few vital issues that Lynn is leading on that will require some deft political manoevuring.

Steve Liddiard has run a “quiet but effective” campaign. Out on the streets each day, working in the Labour HQ and doing the hard yards. Labour have campaigned hard and long in Tilbury knowing that every single vote counts. They appear to be pleased with the figures. As we have said before there are many many traditional voters out there.

The big question, again is whether they can fend off the BNP. With only a 61 majority in 2008 and a 242 majority in 2006, there are two ways matters can go. The number of BME’s that have migrated into the area could give Mr Liddiard an increased majority. By the same token, many people are concerned re issues such as The Anchor pub and if Jay Slaven has mobilised enough people then there could be a shock here.

However, this is a General Election and a turnout of 60-65% should see enough Labour voters ticking Carl Morris and then ticking Steve Liddiard as well.

Prediction: Lab Hold

  1. Michael, I think with the tv debates and from hearing people on the street, the turnout will be higher than the last election.
I also think the Tories have scored an own goal with their choice of picking a non local candidate.
Labours biggest threat will come from Clive Broad, local man representing local people.

  2. MIDDX17 our previous MP Andrew Mackinlay lives in Surrey and wasn’t a ‘local’ candidate when he was selected and he never moved into Thurrock, keeping his main home in Chesington, Surrey. Yet no one can doubt his 100 percent commitment to Thurrock.
