Essex Sunday League
Southend-on-Sea and EMT 140 All Out (36.2overs)
Stanford-Le-Hope CC 143/2 (20.3overs)
On a very good batting track at Southchurch Park, Southend won the toss and elected to bat. Stanford’s new ball pair of Andrew Love (3/34) and the unlucky Greg Cohen (0/34) caused the Southend batsman all kinds of problems as Stanford started to dominate the game. Ian Sanderson (2/17) and Neil Samwell (2/13) continued the trend of domination and began to out-smart the Southend middle order as wickets tumbled at regular intervals. Young Charlie Gleisinger (2/20) cleaned up the tail as Southend were bowled out for a mere 140.
In reply, Stanford Openers Harry Maher (33) and Matthew Page (24) looked as though they were in a hurry smashing the ball to all parts of the ground as Stanford raced to 59 off 8 overs. However, both openers were gone in a flash and that left skipper Martin Leslie (48 not out) and Lee Knight (35 not out) to knock off the runs with some lusty blows. A well accomplished performance from the team and a deserved win for Stanford-Le-Hope CC.
