Jaw Broken In Ockendon Robbery

Police in Thurrock are appealing for witnesses to a street robbery that left a man with a broken jaw. Two men have been arrested and released on bail while enquiries continue.

It was around midnight on May 28th when three friends were walking along Stifford Road, South Ockendon after being at the cinema at Lakeside. They were approached by five young men who then assaulted two of them and stole a mobile phone.

One of the attackers brandished a combat style knife during the incident. One of the victims, 17 year old local lad, received a broken jaw from being punched to the face, requiring an emergency operation at Broomfield Hospital where metal plates were fixed into his jaw as it was broken in two places. The other victim did not require hospital treatment.

Two men aged 18 years have been arrested and are on police bail until August 7 while enquiries continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Dc Dave Ford at Tilbury on 0300 333 4444 or Crimestoppers.
