A VICIOUS war of words broke out between Labour and Conservative councillors last night over the future funding of T-Fest.
The attack took place at a meeting of the full council. Ockendon councillor and chair of the T-Fest steering committee, Barry Johnson (Cons) asked Portfolio Holder for Culture, Lynn Worrall for an update on whether the very successful T-Fest would be taking place in 2011.
Cllr Worrall told him: “The plans are uncertain because you have never called a meeting.”
The usually mild-mannered councillor burst out of his seat to make a point or order. He said: “I am sorry Madam Mayor, but that is just an outright lie. I called a meeting but that was cancelled by Labour.”
Councillor Johnson was the chair of T-Fest 2009 and 2010 and was present at both festivals from beginning to end.
Cllr Worrall stated that the future of T-Fest depended on future private investment.
