A NEW name has entered the fray in the on-going saga of the unauthorised lorry parks in Thurrock.

Last night at the monthly full council meeting, Chafford councillor Tunde Ojetola warned of the amount of litter deposited by lorry drivers parked on the verges in the borough.

He said: “Now that we no longer have any lorry parks in the borough, it looks like this problem is going to get worse and worse.”

Cllr Ojetola asked Portfolio Holder for Public Protection, Gerard Rice what systems were in place to monitor the behaviour of the lorry drivers.

Cllr Rice said: “There are a number of enforcement officers who go out on night patrols and issue around 50 tickets a shift”.

Cllr Ojetola opined that until the borough develops a facility for lorries to park in the area, the problem may get a lot worse.

  1. (the amount of litter deposited by lorry drivers parked on the verges in the borough) . cllr Tunde the west Thurrock power station lorry site is still not shut so are you saying this is an ongoing problem or was you under the impression that the litter problem was a result of that action. The fact of the matter is , it is Thurrock’s councill planning department inability to get the ball rolling on a legal lorry site which is the problem so you being a councillor you are in the position to do something about it. So why don’t you ask your planning department to do something about it . But it seems to me Andy millard and Bill newman don’t want to do anything about it . I would invite your comments on that matter .
