The South Essex District Cricket Board’s under 14 indoor six a side cricket competition started at Grays School on Friday (10th December). This age group appears to be strong in the batting department, with no fewer than eight junior batsmen reaching a score of twenty or higher.
The first week’s highest score came from Ben Kent of Belhus “A”, who scored exactly 50 not out. He was supported by Jack Martin-Hussey with 25 not out, as their team finished the innings on 118 for the loss of four wickets. Their opponents, Belhus “B”, had Elliot Playle on form with the bat as he plundered a fine 47 not out, but his team closed 31 runs behind, on 87 for 5.
George Smith with 26 not out and Harry Lockyer, 34 not out, were the mainstays in the Orsett “A” total of 107-3, while the Orsett “B” team replied with 73 for the loss of three wickets, for whom Jack Shiner top-scored with 25 not out.
