EAST Thurrock United achieved their twelfth victory in a row with a marvellous 4-2 demolition of AFC Sudbury reports Isthmian.co.uk.

The result means the Rocks go into Saturdays clash away at Needham Market with an eight-point lead over the Marketmen (who have five games in hand) at the top of Division One North.

Max Cornhill forced a Kris Newby cross past Sudbury’s besnooded keeper Nicky Eyre after 18 minutes and Newby effectively settled the game with two superb goals in the last eight minutes of the first half. They took his league tally to 17, second only to Leatherhead’s Greg Andrews on 21, and he now has a real chance of following Martin Tuohy and Sam Higgins to become the third successive East Thurrock man to capture the award for the league’™s top scorer.

Reiss Gilbey added a fourth goal on 55 minutes, and Sudbury had to wait until the last seven minutes for a consolation double from James Baker, the second a penalty.
