Thousands taken from Scout Hut

Police are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at the Condovers Scout Activity Centre on Church Road, Tilbury.

Between 4pm on Sunday, March 6 and 9:45am on Tuesday, March 8, suspects gained entry by forcing a window. An estimated £6,630 worth of items were stolen, including copper piping, tools and play equipment. £10,900 worth of damage was caused after the floor and plumbing system was damaged during the theft.

Investigating officer, Pc Steven Miller, said: “This property is a volunteer run centre for children. As well as the damage caused, thousands of pounds worth of equipment was stolen, mainly climbing apparatus for rock climbing activities.

“The centre is run by a team of devoted volunteers who give up much of their spare time in order to give children something to do with their time. The burglary occurred over the weekend prior to the start of their busy season which has set them back weeks and cost them an awful lot of their own time and money to get put right. I appeal to the conscience of anyone that knows who did this to do the right thing and contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Pc Steven Miller at Tilbury police station on 0300 333 4444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
