Car Workshop ablaze in Brooke Road

Fire appliances attended a garage fire in Quarry hill Grays today at approximately 1.30pm today. The domestic garage, at the rear of the house next to Grays Health Centre and adjacent to the site of the new post office facility was well ablaze when fire crews arrived to extinguish the flames. Appliances had to refill from a hydrant in Orsett Road outside the Thameside Theatre.  It is believed the premises were being used for car repairs.

Firefighters were called in to reports of explosions being heard from a car repair workshop. The officer in charge reported that the fire was confined to a purpose built brick structure which was 50% well alight.

Crews had extinguished the fire by 14:02hrs using two hose reel jets and wearing two sets of breathing apparatus. They remained at the scene for a further 20 minutes turning over and damping down to ensure no hot-spots remained.
