WITH the long summer evenings, a few drinks after work is a thirst quenching temptation and can lead to drinking more than planned.
The message from Thurrock Council’s Europa Road Safety officers is to keep it safe and not to drink and drive – try a non-alcoholic cocktail, a Mocktail, instead.
On average 3,000 people are killed or seriously injured each year in drink-drive related accidents and nearly one-in-six of all road deaths involve drivers who are over the legal alcohol limit.
Thurrock’s Road Safety officers are suggesting an exciting alternative to alcoholic drinks – Mocktails made from fresh fruit juices and other soft beverages and non-alcoholic beers.
Members of the public will be invited to try these drinks on Tuesday 19 July between 11.30am and 2.30pm in Grays High Street, outside Lloyds Bank.
The event is being staged using Essex County Council’s Community Wheels vehicle which will be available for people to view local accident statistics and to try out a driving simulator to experience driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
Cllr Andy Smith, said: “Drink-driving incidents occur all year round, but with summer nights and friends meeting after work it is time to take that little bit extra care.”
