High speed chase ends in smash on A13

BURGLARS who stole a high value BMW from Romford, led police on a high speed car chase for over twenty miles, ending up smashing the car on the A13 near Stanford-le-Hope.

The car was stolen after the keys were taken from a house in Romford. The car was then picked up by the police interceptors near Eastwood on the A127. A high speed chase ensued taking the car through a number of towns and careering the wrong way down a number of one way streets.

The police put a stinger in operation near to Rochford which deflated two of the tyres in the stolen car. The car carried on through to Benfleet and near to Canvey Island.

The car got on to the A13. In its disabled state, the car crashed into a barrier a mile short of the Stanford turn off.

Three males were arrested. A 19-year-old male from Hornchurch and a 19-year-old from Romford was arrested for burglary and theft of a motor vehicle. A 20-year-old male, of no fixed abode was arrested for road traffic offences.
