Chadwell man in court over “riot messages”

A CHADWELL man appeared in court today  (Thursday) to answer charges in connection with sending menacing messages in relation to the recent riots that have swept across the country

Steven Jones, (18), Stour Road, Chadwell St Mary, only spoke to confirm his name and address at Basildon magistrates court.

Jones, a drivers mate, dressed in a stripey t-shirt and red trousers pled not guilty to the charge of sending, by public communication network,an offensive/indecent/obscene/menacing message/matter.

Jones was released on conditional bail that he reside at his parents house in Stour Road and that he surrender himself at Grays police station, a day prior to the trial.

Trial date was set for Tuesday October 18th.

A 16 year-old youth from South Ockendon will appear at Southend Youth Court today.
