AN 84-year-old South Ockendon woman was knocked down and killed in a road traffic collision in Thurrock this morning (Wednesday).
The fatal collision occurred at 10.50 am on Motherwell Way in West Thurrock.
It is understood that elderly pedestrian was knocked down by a white transit van after walking out of a store in the Cliffside retail park.
The area was cordoned off for some time. All three emergency services attended.
Fire officers fought frantically to save the woman who was trapped underneath the van.
Essex Air Ambulance were called, landed at IKEA and uplifted the stricken pensioner.
She was transferred to Queens Hospital in Romford but died soon after.
