GCSE Day 2011: Gable Hall: Students delighted, new head less so

GABLE HALL always knew that the 11% jump in last years results was going to be a hard one to repeat plus dealing with the transition due to the retirement of headteacher John King but you could still detect that there was a hint of disappointment in the air at the school.

Dr Sophina Asong was measured in her interview but you can just tell that the head will be doing everything in her considerable power to improve the results next year.

“It would be disingenous to say that we are very happy, we are satisfied at progress but we are not over the moon. It has not been our very best year.

Having said that, they have gained 7% on 2009 with 66% of the students gaining 5 GCSE’s at A* to C.

However, the hall was crowded with dozens of very excited young people who had worked very hard and were delighted with their results.

YT spoke to a very pleased Chris Mullender and Jennifer Owens.
