Lakeside shops delight at retail awards

Local shoppers have selected their favourite stores and restaurants in the Lakeside Retailer Awards 2011. 24 different stores from the around the centre received much deserved recognition at last week’s awards evening, hosted by Martin and Su from Heart Essex.

The number of votes cast (3,270) more than tripled the number received last year, as shoppers made the most of the opportunity to vote for their favourites in seven separate categories. Winners included Primark, which won ‘Shop I Can’t Live Without’ for large stores, and Nandos, located on The Boardwalk, which took the top spot in the ‘Favourite Place to Eat’ category.

Lakeside’s Disney Store scooped the most accolades though, winning the award for ‘Wow Factor Window Display’ and runner-up tribute for ‘Family Friendly Shop/Restaurant’. Other stores awarded on the night included Marks & Spencer, chosen for best service, and Boots, selected for the friendliness of its staff.

Sophie Scott, Marketing Manager at Lakeside, commented: “This year’s Retailer Awards night was fantastic as we got to reward the teams in our stores once again for exceptional performance and customer service. We were delighted that so many of our shoppers got involved in the voting as it proves that they remain proud and fond of the wide range of stores we have here at Lakeside.”

Although stating that the new Westfield Centre in Stratford isn’t worrying them, to my knowledge it definately is!
Even Bluewater in Kent is suffering from less footfall and income. So instead off hiring more staff for Christmas, they are making some redundant.
